Alpine star Lindsey Vonn has declared she will be "in an excellent position" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, following claiming a top-three finish for the fourth instance in her last five World Cup competitions. The veteran athlete, who last week set a record by becoming the oldest downhill World Cup winner, finished third in the super giant slalom in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This marked her 142nd career World Cup podium finish. Strong Return in the French Alps Returning to the iconic venue for the first occasion in eight years, Vonn crossed the line in a time of one minute 20.60 seconds. She was 0.36 seconds behind victor Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson securing the runner-up spot. "I was slightly lacking the right line on the first jump," Vonn said. "Subsequently, I performed strongly. I'm pleased with my performance today, unlike in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was too conservative." This performance was her second podium at Val d'Isere during the event, having also finished third in the downhill on Saturday. A Remarkable Comeback from Injury Vonn officially retired in early 2019 as a result of ongoing knee problems. However, she staged a competitive comeback in December 2024 after a partial knee replacement. With just over six weeks remaining until the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, which are set to run from 6-22 February, Vonn's form are timely. She boasts one gold and two bronze medals in her collection and is strongly positioned to compete for the United States at the next Olympics. "At the Olympics, I will be in a good place," Vonn affirmed. Chasing More Titles In addition to her Games aspirations, Vonn is also hoping to add to the four overall crystal globes she has secured over a career spanning two decades. She currently holds a substantial lead at the summit of the overall downhill standings and is sitting in fifth place in the super-G World Cup table. This current World Cup campaign features a nine more events scheduled before the season finals in Norway on March 21st, 2026.
