The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant boost to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be building momentum.

Recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
