The Latest Relaxed Playlist Sparks Intense Discussions Regarding AI Players, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios introduced a new game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but features several key adjustments:

  • Every squad has only 8 real players, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities done by real players grant complete experience points, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
  • Only two locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Features like Player tags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.

In short, this mode lives up to its title: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, as it provides additional choices for players looking for alternative ways to enjoy the title. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, many BF6 fans are upset.

Player Responses: From Fury to Praise

"People want real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, one user remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," while someone else lists all the issues they believe to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

However, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this title 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds another. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," and another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Criticisms and Player Feedback

Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have pointed out that it will make queue times even longer for other modes because of the sheer number of options in the game already. Similarly, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to remove bot farms from the system. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the community compromising in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. A different user describes this mode as the devs "dropping the ball so hard, I had so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?

Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics shows this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
