Jurgen Klopp states coming back to lead Liverpool is theoretically possible.

Jurgen Klopp, who departed from Anfield in 2024, remarked that rejoining the club remains something that could happen. The 58-year-old, post a game-changing nine-year spell that included Champions League success and ending the club's long wait since 1990, currently occupies positions as head of global soccer for Red Bull and in an advisory capacity with the German Football League.

Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks

Liverpool won the Premier League in the previous campaign, but many fans holding him in high esteem would welcome the idea of his potential comeback. During an extensive chat, he explained to his interviewer: “I stated I will never coach another team within the country. Therefore in case it's my former club...yeah. It's plausible.”

“At 58 years old, that means the choice could be mine down the line, who knows. Is a decision required immediately? Then I will not coach again. But thank God, no such pressure exists. I can just see what the future brings.”

Conditions for a Comeback

When asked about which situations must arise to tempt his return to the touchline, he confessed he was not instantly drawn to such a return. “It's unclear to me, I enjoy my current role,” he said. “I don't crave being a coach; I don’t miss standing under bad weather through long matches; I'm glad to skip interviews four times, three times a week or doing numerous chats weekly.

“I don’t miss the dressing room per se, however, dining out with the team having a nice chat, is pleasant. We won a lot of games so there was often positive atmosphere around the place. Remaining with me is Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh in my ear to illustrate.”

Praise for His Successor

He commended regarding Arne Slot, acknowledging his role due to the changes which secured the championship last campaign. Liverpool have lost four in a row in every contest post heavy investment, but he rubbished the suggestion that it might signal the start of a downward turn.

“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker such as Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if you use the wrong words. He’s an incredible talent. Ekitike, superb talent. They have a strong well-judged squad. No need for concern regarding the Reds, they will be fine.”

Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota

Klopp also spoke emotionally regarding the passing of Jota, whom he brought in in 2020, along with the consequences for the team. Jota lost his life in a vehicle collision alongside his brother recently.

“Can you substitute such an individual? It’s not about the player himself, it's his character. It's hard to picture the dressing room absent his presence. I find it difficult to discuss about it. A devastating blow for the entire squad as well. Nobody at Liverpool might employ it as an excuse though it's a fact. You walk in a dressing room which he filled completely. Handling this individually is difficult. Unbearable.”
