Canada's Blue Jays Secure Fall Classic Matchup Against defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

Springer was instrumental for the Astros securing the World Series in 2017.

Toronto's Blue Jays earned a spot in their first Fall Classic following the 1993 season by beating the Mariners in the final game seven of the American League Championship Series.

Trailing 3-1, outfielder George Springer delivered a three-run blast in the seventh frame, propelling the only Canadian franchise in MLB to a 4-3 victory in the series. Next up are the defending champions, holders of the current crown, in the anticipated World Series.

"I'm just so happy for our team, our city, Canada," Springer stated, a star of the Astros team that won the 2017 championship. "This is such an amazing experience."

George Springer has now connected for 23 October home runs, placing him third all-time trailing only Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (twenty-seven).

"There's probably not another person in the world that I want up in that moment besides Springer with his October magic," remarked manager John Schneider.

The Mariners, after leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, continue to be the only MLB franchise never to appear in a World Series.

Wilson commented "there's no question that it hurts" in the wake of his team's loss at their home ballpark, but praised their efforts throughout the year.

"This is a unique group. It's a shame that we finished on the losing end of this one," he remarked.

Toronto won the World Series on their two prior appearances in 1992 and 1993, and are set to host the Los Angeles in the first game on the upcoming Friday.
