Fashion legend Antony Price, the influential style architect who crafted many legendary styles associated with David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has died aged 80.

He was celebrated for his defined forms and performative fashion, such as the pastel suits that became famous from rock band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "the song Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance across their platforms."

Price's death comes less than a month after he unveiled his newest line in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Singer Lily Allen showcased a dress that paid homage to the notorious black velvet "dress" made famous by the late Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price relocated to London during the sixties to attend the renowned Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he started his work in men's fashion at the company Stirling Copper and was the creator of the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that Sir Mick Jagger sported during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show was launched by creations worn by model Jerry Hall, who also wore the wedding dress Price designed for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A long-time collaborator of David Bowie, Price designed the memorable jacket the star wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to fuse tailoring for all genders along with his technical proficiency in shaping form-fitting garments cemented his status as a "one-of-a-kind talent," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he commenced designing outfits for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, such as several ensembles for her tour of the United States after becoming Duchess.

Following a profession lasting more than five decades, Price staged what would be his last show in London last month in conjunction with the label 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Theatrical Flair: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • Working with Stars and Royalty: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

The fashion world mourns the loss to a genuine innovator whose legacy on the visual landscape of music remains deeply ingrained.
