🔗 Share this article Adult Swim's Premier Fresh Series of This Year Gets a Substantial Extension for Seasons 2 and 3. Last October, Adult Swim saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the channel launched a fresh animated series with a markedly softer vibe. Haha, You Clowns was gentle and comforting, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. During a period often marked by dark humor, this show's wholesomeness resonated deeply and propelled it a surprise hit. A Two-Season Greenlight On December 18th, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the story of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four central characters. "I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come." A President's Endorsement The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky appeal. "All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'" A Wholesome Alternative When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something surprisingly comfy about observing this endearing family navigate their daily lives. Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its prevailing sarcastic tone. He traced this trend to a broader media landscape. “We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we must laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.” What Comes Next Now, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially help usher in that very evolution. If nothing else, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to enjoy the warm glow of the beloved Campbell clan. The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is ready to watch on HBO Max.
